More Action-Packed Double Features coming from Shout! Factory

Posted by Josh Samford On April - 22 - 2011

As someone who has been reviewing a lot of Shout! Factory’s releases here lately, I can commend them for picking some very fun and obscure titles out of their massive library accumulated from the works of Roger Corman. These double and triple features have been the best though. Even if you’ve never heard of either movie, your chances of finding something ridiculously entertaining are pretty good so you’ve got that 50/50 shot!

Next up from the company are two more Action-Packed double features. First up is the Giant Robot Action Pack which features the science fiction titles Robot Wars and Crash and Burn. For fans of low budget scifi or generally cheese filled robot movies… this should be like mana from heaven! Interesting to note, Robot Wars was directed by Full Moon Entertainment maestro Charles Band and Crash and Burn was directed by his father, veteran b-movie filmmaker Albert Band! Sounds like an interesting combination for sure.

Also coming from Shout! Factory is a different kind of Action-Pack than what we’ve seen from them previously. The set will feature Gordon’s War (1973) and Off Limits (1987). This Action-Pack seems to focus on the post-Vietnam generation as we see films that focus on former soldiers having to cope with the war and those having to deal with the oncoming war itself. An interesting selection to be sure, the films feature veteran casts (with my man-crush William Dafoe starring in Off Limits) and look to be very solid pieces of work.

Although the Robot Action pack doesn’t seem to feature much in the form of special features, this Vietnam themed action pack does indeed pack some interesting content in the form of two audio commentary tracks. Gordon’s War will feature commentary from cinematographer Victor J. Kemper and actor Tony King. Off Limits features Willem Dafoe and director Christopher Crowe giving their insight on their film and their time spent working together.

Knowing Shout! Factory’s track record with pairing their double features, this should be quite the entertaining little pair of films and I hope that we will be covering them on the site soon!

For more information on this action pack, keep reading after the break for the official press announcement.
