Although not even old enough to receive much press over here stateside, the great people over at Eureka Video recently announced that Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Tokyo Sonata is going to be released here in the states. Eureka is a classy company with a great release record very much in the vein of Criterion or such, so the film will be getting much respect and is coming out of their “Masters of Cinema” label. If you’re not familiar with Kurosawa, believe me, he fits into that title just fine. A master of atmospheric horror and slow building dramas, his work is nothing short of phenomenal. As one of the most underrated working directors in the world, I’m definitely psyched to finally get my hands on this one. The release date is set for June 22nd, so keep your eyes peeled and pick it up!
